Young Leaders Resource
Aim of the Course
The aim is very simple – it's to help young people aged 15 – 19 to grow in faith and begin to develop as young leaders. We want to work with what the Spirit is already doing in the young leaders' lives so that what develops is healthy and fruitful. We hope that there will be many more young disciples and leaders in God's church as a result.
To do this requires wisdom. It means getting the right approach in how we mentor young leaders, but also how we create the right kind of culture within our youth group or church so that young leaders grow with God's values in mind. Read on to learn how this can happen.
The 10 sessions
Knowing my God family
A session to enable us to create Christian communities of young people and supportive adults so that young people can belong, know they are valued and accepted for who they are.
Knowing my God gang
We look at ways to help young people form friendships with others who are also on a faith journey. A young person isolated from other Christian friends will struggle but those in a God gang will flourish.
Knowing Love
When we come to know Gods love, we begin to grow in self-esteem and our mental health often improves. We explore practices for young people to know Gods love and live life in His love. Worshipping together and living life as worship is key.
Knowing Faith
Do I understand my own faith journey and how God has worked in my life? This session suggests tools we can use to dig into our spiritual history, understanding how God has chosen and called us.
Knowing who I am
Identity is a huge issue today, especially within younger generations. Understanding who God has created us and called us to be is foundational to who we will become and how we lead.
Tell
How does a young person in school tell the good news? How might a young person reach out to their peers and invite them into a faith community? We explore stories, examples and lots of practical ways this can happen.
Teach
How can young people with little knowledge of the Bible begin to teach? Why is there so much more energy in the youth group when young people begin to teach? We look at ways to involve young people in leading bible discussions and teaching, how we can support those with little knowledge and help them to flourish.
Tend
Who are the young people in your group who spot the hurting or lonely young person? Does anyone support their peers when upset? Do you have older teens who care for younger teens without being asked? We explore how caring teens can be nurtured, encouraged and supported in a safe way.
Transform
Many young people are passionate about changing the world or the area they live in. We look at ways to support them to be transformers of society within a safety net of support.
Treasure - What do young people in your group treasure? Can we help them find ways to treasure what is important?
